Best NRFI/YRFI Bet Today:

Rationale: This game is tough because the Rockies have little chance of scoring in the first inning. Julio Urias will make his final start of the season while going for his 18th  win. Urias has a 1.10 ERA since the all-star break and was lights-out in September, posting a 1.19 ERA over five starts. He also has a 2.70 ERA in the first inning this year, so teams have rarely got the jump on him early.

However, the Dodgers are a strong candidate to score early, making the YRFI worth a shot. The Rockies are sending Ryan Feltner to the mound on Tuesday night. In addition to his 6.01 ERA on the season, Feltner pitched to a 6.66 ERA over his five starts in September, so he hasn’t gotten better late in the year. He’s also allowed 10 first-inning runs in 18 starts this year. Trea Turner, Mookie Betts, and Freddie Freeman, who hit at the top of the Los Angeles order, are all coming off a strong September and want to be in good form with the playoffs approaching. That means they’ll be locked in against Feltner and likely to do some damage in the first inning.

Best NRFI/YRFI Bet Today:

Rationale: When these teams met last week, only 23 runs were scored over three games, but eight of those 23 runs came in the first two innings. Neither team was shy about striking early, which is why that trend could continue on Tuesday. Keep in mind the Twins have a batting title candidate in Luis Arraez, hitting at the top of the lineup. Carlos Correa and the red-hot Gio Urshela aren’t far behind him in the order, so Minnesota’s lineup has good potential to score in the first inning. The same is true for the White Sox, with power threats like Elvis Andrus, Jose Abreu, and Eloy Jimenez hitting in the top half of the order.

On the pitching front, Chicago’s Lucas Giolito is always prone to trouble in the first inning. He owns a 5.90 ERA in the first inning of games this year, which is in line with his struggles throughout the season. Meanwhile, Minnesota’s Josh Winder posted a 5.59 ERA in September while getting a chance to join the rotation. He’s allowed 12 runs over 19.2 innings and hasn’t completed five innings in three of those four starts. In other words, he gives up runs, and he gives them up early, increasing the odds of the White Sox being able to score a first-inning run.
